Transforming A Property That’d Been Vacant For Two Decades

This house was ROUGH when we found it…and we knew it would need a full gut a re-do.

But you know what? It was solid, it was beautiful Hamilton red brick, and it had the bones and structure to be beautiful.

Dylan and I could see the potential from the first time we laid eyes on this home!

A lot of people told us were crazy, but when they see it now they don’t doubt the possibilities of what homes can become anymore.

Wanna see what it looked like when we bought it? Of course you do!

What We Bought:

Ok, so I know this looks bad…

Let me explain. This house was vacant for about 20 years.

It had been broken into several times – so the windows were smashed and all the copper plumbing had been ripped out and stolen.

Large portions of the roof had been blown off, so for many years the interior of the home had been exposed to snow and rain. Which is why you see so much water damage inside! But rest assured we took care of it!

So We Started With A Full Gut:

Then it was time to rebuild!

We started with all new exterior paint – normally I don’t like painting brick, but this home was covered in graffiti top to bottom! So we painted it, but kept with the traditional Hamilton red brick colour.

Next was all new windows! Every single window and door was replaced and we went with a sharp black exterior and a white interior.

Meanwhile on the inside was all new framing and flooring.

Then came insulation, drywall, and flooring.

And then of course all the finishing touches (kitchen, lighting, bathrooms, doors, appliances, etc.!)

And before we knew it, we were done! And this vacant property that was the eye sore of the neighbourhood became the shining star!

The After Photos:

I know right!?

What a crazy transformation!

All you need is good bones, and you can turn an abandoned house into an amazing home that is going to stand for another 100 years!
